What is VSAT?
It is an initial of Very Small Aperture Terminal. VSAT is an earth station with a small diameter antenna system (90 cm - 240 cm).

What is the package delay over satellites?
Package Delay is the travel time of the signal from transmitter station to the receiver station over satellite. The delay is around 240 ms for the single hop satellite connections. This delay occurs because of the satellites are located 36.000 km above the Equator.

Can I run all terrestrial applications over a satellite link?
Because of the satellite communication structure it takes approximately 240 - 250 ms for a package to reach from one point to another. This delay is much lower on terrestrial lines. Except this delay factor there is no difference between satellite connection and terrestrial connection about running of the applications. The applications like VoIP, Video Conference and SAP can run over satellite without any problem.

What is the difference between RCS-NET and DIRECT-NET?
RCS-NET is an appropriate Internet solution for small and medium companies that have low Internet traffic and few computers. It provides surfing on the web, receiving/sending e-mails over satellite. The system is sharable and economical as well.

DIRECT-NET is the Internet solution for medium and big size companies that have high Internet traffic. DIRECT-NET solution, which uses dedicated satellite capacity, supports high performance required applications like VOIP, videoconference etc.

We would like to have satellite connection between our offices. Which Corporate Satellite Solution is suitable for us? i.e.TDMA or SCPC?
TDMA and SCPC are two different methods that are used in VSAT systems. Each terminal uses the same carrier in TDMA systems. Using of BOD (Bandwidth on Demand) in TDMA carrier allows usage of satellite capacity more efficiently. Each single point (office) can communicate with other points directly in the mesh structured TDMA system.

In SCPC based system, terminals can communicate directly with only one point. (With Center).
In addition, carriers are always on, so even there is no traffic on the system the capacity of the satellite is used in SCPC system.

In conclusion, we recommend TDMA if you will have data, voice connection amongst all of your offices, otherwise SCPC can be a better solution.

Which hardware do we need for a satellite connection and how can we provide them?
For our satellite connection solutions basicly you need an antenna and a satellite modem for each location. You do not have to buy this hardware; you can rent them from Balkan Telekom.

We already have a Pay TV system in our Hotel, why should we need a VOD system?
As the movies are released by the TV broadcasting system in Classical Pay TV, the user can only start to watch a movie from the minute they enter Pay TV, which means they can not access it from the beginning if they missed it at all. Whereas in VOD system, the user always starts to watch the movie from the beginning. Moreover if they like, they can Fast Forward / Rewind the movie via the VoD system.
